Essential Duties

  • Responsible for managing the safe and reliable operation of the Ammonia/Urea plant in an environmentally compliant and efficient manner.
  • Manage the production shift and day teams enabling them to safely implement the operations plan as dictated by the production and maintenance schedules.
  • Implement the area safety, quality and environmental plan for the production teams.
  • Ensure compliance to safe work procedures, address non-compliance and recommend improvements.
  • Monitors plant conditions and takes necessary corrective actions to maintain safe and reliable operation.
  • Provide day to day direction to the Shift and Day Supervisors
  • Manage team training and development plans
  • Provide direct mentoring of the supervisors
  • Monitor the team activities and provide formal and informal feedback to ensure work is carried out efficiently
  • Ensure effective shift to shift handovers
  • Ensure effective communications with the day and shift production teams
  • Ensure that the Key Performance Indicators are understood and monitored, and that corrective actions are initiated for deviations.
  • Coordinates with HSE, Maintenance and Engineering to achieve the above objectives.
  • Oversee the development and improvement standard operating procedures.


  • Diploma, Trade or equivalent
  • 5 Years experience as Superintendent in a Fertilizer Plant or Methanol Plant
  • In depth knowledge of fertilizer production
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills
  • Experience in coaching and mentoring
  • Excellent troubleshooting ability/problem solving skills
  • Ability to recognise and manage operational risk
